AI Drama. Satya Nadella Achieves The Next Best Outcome Regarding Sam Altman & OpenAI.
Little will change from a Generative AI revenue standpoint in the near-term despite the OpenAI-related drama over the weekend. I don’t know if Sam Altman will be successful inside of Microsoft (MSFT) leading its new AI research effort. Altman strikes me as a small company guy. Microsoft remains committed to its OpenAI partnership and is the company’s largest investor (OpenAI would not have much of a chance at commercial success without MSFT Azure’s operational and financial support).
Given Sam Altman’s new role within MSFT, I assume that Altman will be the person who decides how Microsoft may best leverage OpenAI. Therefore, despite MSFT CEO Satya Nadella’s unsuccessful effort to reinstate Altman as OpenAI CEO over the weekend, Nadella achieved some level of success in that Altman will exercise significant strategic control over OpenAI going forward, that is assuming OpenAI wishes to retain MSFT as a partner. OpenAI would be foolish not to want MSFT as a strategic partner.
