Amazon, eBay Auto, Cox Automotive, Solera and Spinoff Strategy
The Cox family could do well for itself to take Cox Enterprises public and spinoff CE’s various businesses, one of which is Cox Automative.
Cox Auto was largely assembled via acquisitions. Cox Auto would make for a great standalone public company. Solera ought to be part of Cox Auto. I realize that Vista enjoys having Solera as its core holding, but the company would be better served inside of a publicly-traded Cox Auto. There is lots of value that would be unlocked were Cox Enterprises and Cox Auto to become publicly-traded.
Another fun roll-up would be Amazon rolling up Cox Auto, Solera, Mitchell, eBay Motors, LKQ and Verisk. There is far too much fragmentation across vehicle parts and related information services. Migrate all of the above platforms to AWS and integrate them into the AWS VW industrial cloud which Amazon built in conjunction with VW. Every auto repair shop and P&C insurer could ingest data and related analytics via APIs built off of the AWS VW cloud.
