Federal Reserve Weekly SOMA Update
We are no longer referring to this weekly Fed update as a “QT” update, as the Fed is clearly in “QE” mode having started to lower its Fed Funds borrowing rate while essentially holding its balance sheet flat – for now. I anticipate that the Fed will soon be back in the market buying Treasuries.
Treasuries: The Fed’s Treasury holdings were essentially unchanged for the week-ended April 16th. The Fed’s Treasury holdings declined by $19.5 billion on a rolling 4-week basis.
Agencies: The Fed’s Government Agency security holdings were essentially unchanged for the week-ended April 16th. The Fed’s Government Agency holdings declined by $14.4 billion on a rolling 4-week basis.
