Gemini Pro 3.1 Release

The problem? I can't authenticate via the CLI

I can’t authenticate on Gemini in the terminal.

I have been using codex 5.3 (OpenAI’s CLI) and Claude Code (Anthropic’s CLI) because when operating from terminal, the models read your entire files and therefore offer high quality responses. When operating in the chat with file attachments, the models will read let’s say the first 200 lines in an 800 line of code file, the last 200 lines, and some of the middle. The model may take 2 minutes or 10 minutes to do so in chat, particularly if you have engaged “reasoning” or “thinking”mode. In terminal, this process is much faster.

All this said, Gemini is already playing from behind and will struggle to catch codex and Claude Code if people can’t authenticate in terminal.
