General Election Popular Vote Data

I enjoy playing with data, so here is U.S. General Election data specific to popular votes.

• The numbers suggest that Joe Biden was a cultural rock star in 2020 (not my recollection) as his popular votes were up 23% over Obama (Obama was a cultural rock star prior to his first term), in the 2016 General Election.

  • More popular votes in 2020 you may say given that voting requirements were relaxed and General Election duration was elongated, the rationale being the SARS-CoV-2 outbreak. Doubtful. Yet, if that was the case, why was the 2024 Democrat popular vote down 13% from the previous election when the Democrat candidate outspent her opponent 3-1 in 2024?
