Google's Cloud + Gemini Stack Is Unique
Google’s Cloud + Gemini “AI stack” is unique insofar as it is the only Cloud + frontier LLM AI stack housed under one roof.
Having GCP and Gemini under one roof is a huge advantage for Google.
The Mountain View search & cloud giant is not dependent on a third party to provide LLM capabilities.
Google can control how it integrates Gemini into its product portfolio (Pixel products, Search, Workspace, etc.), beyond GCP.
Meanwhile Anthropic, Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Oracle jockey for position.
The Anthropic/AWS partnership, the OpenAI/Microsoft partnership/feud, and the OpenAI/Oracle partnership are disparate pieces from different companies with different CEOs and different strategic and operational priorities.
The OpenAI/Microsoft partnership is fracturing as OpenAI and Oracle shape their partnership (although I believe Oracle and OpenAI will scale down their $300 billion deal over the next couple of years).
Microsoft has a nascent LLM effort. I am not optimistic about it.
I do like Meta’s open source LLM approach, but Zuckerberg is chasing. One can’t create an AI culture overnight. Conversely, Google has been building its AI culture since inception, even if it was slow to productize its deep learning (Gen AI) effort.
