How Will Al Michaels Be Compensated?
Peacock (ticker: CMCSA), will use a GenAI model trained on Al Michaels’ voice to deliver Olympic event recaps at this summer’s Olympics. The question is: how will IP owners be compensated for - in this case - use of one’s voice?
What will the compensation model to IP owners look like?
I imagine media companies will pitch talent on contracts that include unlimited usage of one’s name, image and likeness (NIL) including one’s voice.
Talent ought to build a usage kicker into contacts. For example, were I representing Mr. Michaels, I would want Peacock/CMCSA to compensate Mr. Michaels for every recap aired across Peacock / CMCSA’s media outlets.
