January Tech Layoffs Exceed Layoffs for All of December
Technology companies laid off 7,528 employees month-to-date in January across 48 companies (per Layoffs.fyi), which accounts for more layoffs than all of December 2023.
The 7,528 figure represents a 15,000 employee layoff run rate for the month of January. By comparison the month of December had 7,159 layoffs the entire month. Thus, January’s run rate implies 110% more layoffs than the month of December (see chart below).
