The FTC Will Not Breakup Amazon Or Google
To put it simply, the Biden Administration’s FTC is anti-capitalist and anti-American. The primary problem with FTC Chair Lina Khan‘s organization is that it suffers from overreach as does the Biden Administration.
Why Ms. Khan’s FTC ever pushed back on Microsoft’s pending acquisition of Activision is beyond me. Anti-competitive? How? One company (MSFT) is a platform company with its Xbox platform. The other company (ATVI) is a Content / video game publisher. They are complementary businesses. MSFT will accelerate game development post-deal close. How is that bad for consumers? Biden’s FTC obviously has a political agenda. Everything is political with these people. How else do you create a $1.5 Trillion fiscal deficit were it not for bad policy that throws good money after bad?
Google is also in Ms. Khan’s crosshairs for building an Internet search tool that is too effective. Breakup Google, or, is Ms. Khan simply reminding senior Googler’s that it better play nice when next year’s General Election rolls around? The truth is that the Open AI, Microsoft combination has about as much a chance of dethroning Google in search as Joe Biden has of walking off stage without incident. We told you so a few months ago when panic set in amongst investors. It seems the hype has finally died down. The FTC is not about to breakup Google.
Breakup Amazon? Why? Would it really make much of a difference if Amazon spun off its Prime and AWS businesses? I don’t see the FTC breaking up Amazon. The truth is both Amazon and Google do big Government business with the Department of Defense (as does Azure / Microsoft). Those customer relationships will outlast any noise coming out of Ms. Khan’s FTC and Mr. Biden’s basement. Ms. Khan and Mr. Biden will be long gone before any Government action were to be taken against Amazon or Google.
