The Stargate Project
I do not yet have an opinion on The Stargate Project - an AI infrastructure project led by OpenAI, Oracle and Softbank - that will include a variety of technology partners including Nvidia, Arm and Microsoft.
The Stargate Project will see $500 billion invested in AI infrastructure over the next 4 years. The lead partners in the deal are OpenAI and Softbank, with OpenAI having operational control and Softbank has financial control.
What is unclear is how the U.S. Government fits into this deal. I am against Government subsidies as they do not work. Government subsidies did not accelerate chip technology development during the Semetech boondoggle of the 1980s and 1990s, nor was the recent CHIPS Act effective under the Biden Administration. Similarly, Solyndra was a failure under the Obama Administration as was Biden’s Green New Deal. Government needs to stay out of markets and stop wasting taxpayer Dollars at scale.
I am fully aware that “AI” is of strategic importance to the U.S. economy and military.
