Was Elevated CPI A Surprise?
No surprise today with CPI up materially as the Fed never sufficiently tightened monetary policy.
Egg prices carry the news (I believe there is collusion among the producers. It would not be the first time), but the 53% percent price increase from Jan 2024-Jan 2025 is only directionally correct. 200-300% egg price increases is a more accurate range depending upon where you are in the U.S.
Notice that the USDA’s egg price market report shows what I believe to be accurate price ranges for today, but the report conveniently excludes year ago pricing: HERE
The money supply continues to grow, therefore, so too shall prices.
